Chirag Shetty, India's top talent in men's doubles

Badminton News: Chirag Shetty is an Indian badminton player who is currently ranked 7th in the world men's doubles rankings and 3rd in the World Tour men's doubles rankings according to the BWF. With a career-high ranking of 7, he and his partner, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, are the first Indian men's doubles pair to enter the top ten of the BWF world rankings.

Chirag Shetty started playing badminton in his free time at the age of seven. Eventually his enthusiasm for the sport grew and he started playing professionally at Goregaon Sports Club under the guidance of Manish Hadkar. At the age of 16, Chirag chose to pursue a career as a professional badminton player.

During his school years, he participated in many club and state level badminton events. Later, he moved to Hyderabad to train at the Pullela Gopichand Academy under the national head coach of the Indian national badminton team, Pullela Gopichand. Under his leadership, he participated in numerous national and international tournaments.

In 2013, he made his professional debut. He participated in the Sushant Chipalkatti Memorial India International Junior Badminton Championships. With his partner MR Arjun., he won his first international gold medal in 2014 in the men's doubles event at the Swiss Junior Open. The same year, he won his second international gold medal against Scotland at the Yonex Belgian Junior.

Later, the coaches of Pullela Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad partnered him with Satwiksairaj Rankireddy. Initially, the duo felt uncomfortable with the duo as they were dominated by backcourt players, making it difficult to play as a team. However, coaches told Shetty to improve his frontcourt game while Rankireddy focused on his backcourt game. Once they start doing it, they will be able to see the results. After that, they rose to fame after winning the India International Challenge in 2016.

After several achievements, Chirag Shetty was nominated for the BWF Most Improved Player Awards 2018 along with his partner, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy.

Their latest achievement was winning the Indian Open 2022 by defeating Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan in straight sets with a score of 21-14, 21-10.
