NOTThree men have been arrested after a serious accident involving an amusement ride in India. A police spokesman said on Wednesday that the crash involving a falling tower during a festival in Mohali, a town in Punjab state, left ten passengers seriously injured and others lightly injured. The tower platform crashed about 15 meters with more than 50 passengers on Sunday. Some of them fell out of their seats.
The arrested are the festival organizer and two other men, said the police spokesman. The investigation into the causes of the accident is still ongoing. It would also be specified whether the organizers had obtained all the necessary authorizations. Initial findings indicated cables had come loose from the ride while driving, leading to the accident.
Local newspaper The Tribune quoted eyewitnesses as saying no ambulance was on the scene and police took the injured to hospital.
The “London Bridge” fair was originally scheduled to last until August 31, but was later extended until September 11. After the accident, the authorities ended the festival early. Reports that a mass panic broke out after the accident could not be confirmed. A video of the crash has been shared millions of times.
