Bisnis.comJAKARTA – Bank Indonesia (BI) will adjust the Service Rate or Merchant Discount Rate (MDR). SQRI for micro-enterprises from next month. Payment network provider PT Artajasa Electronic Payment (Artajasa) believes that this adjustment will not affect interest in micro-enterprise QRIS transactions.
Artajasa Director Siti Hidayati said BI will start setting the MDR QRIS rate for micro businesses at 0.3% from July 1, 2023. Previously, the MDR QRIS rate for micro businesses was of 0%.
According to him, the micro-enterprise segment is very sensitive to tariffs. According to him, BI was very careful in applying the MDR QRIS tariff.
“It is so that with the implementation of the MDR QRIS, micro-enterprises no longer want to use QRIS,” Siti said on Monday (6/26/2023).
He said the implementation of the QRIS MDR tariff was imposed so that the QRIS payment ecosystem can be sustainable. According to him, payment service providers such as banks and financial technologies (fintech) incur costs for QRIS transactions.
“So this rate is reasonable from 0.3%. Behind the tariff, there are also benefits to be gained,” he said.
Payment service providers and payment network providers such as Artajasa also anticipate security risks so that merchants and users can conduct QRIS transactions securely.
According to him, micro-enterprises make daily transactions from QRIS and are then subject to tariffs. However, with an ecosystem built, micro businesses can also feel the benefits. He said socialization has also intensified so that the use of QRIS becomes more massive.
BI itself reported that the number of QRIS users at the end of May 2023 reached 35.8 million people with 26.1 million traders. BI Governor Perry Warjiyo revealed that the number of users and merchants resulted in a total transaction volume of 744 million.
“The total transaction volume of 744 million is in line with the development of QRIS functionality domestically and between countries,” he said at a press conference last week (6/22/2023) .
Currently, BI is known to be collaborating with a number of countries including Singapore, China and Japan for the expansion of QRIS between countries. BI plans to expand the implementation of QRIS with the central banks of Singapore, Japan, India, China and South Korea.
Discussions on payment cooperation via QR codes are still ongoing. So far, Indonesia has set up cross-border QRIS payments with Thailand and Malaysia.
