Badminton News: Indian badminton star PV Sindhu has said he wants former England champion Hafiz Hashim to be his new coach as he prepares for the Paris Olympics next year.
The 2019 world champion has sought approval from the Sports Authority of India to accept the former Malaysian badminton player’s singles coaching, PTI news agency reported on Friday (6/30).
Hafiz Hashim, 40, quit as coach of the Malaysian Badminton Association’s junior team at the end of last year and accepted an offer from Suchitra Badminton Academy in Hyderabad earlier this year.
PV Sindhu won a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics and a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The 27-year-old has been working with Hafiz Hashim for two weeks in Hyderabad ahead of upcoming events, starting with next week’s Canada Open World Tour Super 500 tournament, which is also part of the qualifying tournament for the Paris Olympics 2024.
“She is an elite player for India and will likely be the only women’s singles badminton player to qualify for the Paris Olympics,” PTI news agency quoted the former coach as saying. Indian national team Vimal Kumar.
With two Olympic medals, namely a silver medal at Rio 2016 and a bronze medal at Tokyo 2020, PV Sindhu will of course try to become the first Indian player to win a gold medal in badminton at the next Paris 2024 Olympics.
