“During the launch of the OnePlus 12R, we announced Trinity Engine, a new set of software algorithms that help keep your phone's RAM running fast and smoothly for years to come. Due to an error, we indicated that Trinity Engine extended storage would be UFS 4.0 in some variants. I can now confirm that the storage in all variants of the OnePlus 12R is still enhanced by Trinity Engine, but is in fact UFS 3.1,” OnePlus said in a statement.
To further the matter, OnePlus President and COO Kinder Liu has now announced another action plan that includes a refund for people who purchased the 256GB storage version. However, this is only possible until March 16th.

Difference between UFS 3.1 and UFS 4.0 storage
UFS 4.0 storage offers faster read and write speeds for efficient performance. The UFS 3.1 is slightly slower and is found in various affordable premium and mid-range smartphones, including the OnePlus 11 series. OnePlus said that the OnePlus 12R “still performs very well when reading and writing to memory,” even when the phone has UFS 3.1 storage.
