According to The Times of India, a senior official said two passenger trains and a freight train were involved in the accident on the railway line between Calcutta and Chennai in the state of Odisha. About 50 ambulances are on site, reports the “Times of India”, citing information from the authorities. Rescue operations continue, it is believed that several people are still under the rubble. “This is a major accident and the number of casualties could increase significantly,” a senior district official in Balasore, a locality near the scene of the accident, told the Indian Express newspaper.
