Badminton News: Badminton Men’s Singles Malaysia World No. 5, Lee Zii Jia has overcome the first hurdle of the Indonesia Open 2022 after beating a Thai player, Sitthikom Thammasin at Istora Senayan Stadium Jakarta.
The 24-year-old needed 41 minutes before taming unranked world number 32 from Thailand 21-15, 21-14 to face world number 30 Sameer Verma from India in the second round of the Open of Indonesia 2022.
After the match, Lee Zii Jia wasn’t too happy with his performance in the first round.
“I’m not 100% satisfied, I need to reduce simple mistakes and increase the level of concentration,” Lee said.
However, Lee Zii Jia, who lost to Indonesian Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the Indonesia Masters quarter-finals last week, hopes to do better at the Indonesia Open this time.
“Because it’s back-to-back tournaments, I think most of the players are a bit tired. It’s a challenge to be mentally and physically fresh,” added Lee.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s world number 14 mixed doubles pair, Goh Soon Huat/Shevon
Jemie Lai struggled for 69 minutes before beating world No. 1 Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand 21-18, 7-21 and 22-20.
Goh/Lai will face their compatriots Hoo Pang Ron/Toh Ee Wei in the next round.
In men’s doubles, world number 10 Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi defeated Jeppe Bay/Lasse Molhede of Denmark 21-14, 21-14 and will face third seed Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi of Japan.
Vivian Hoo/Lim Chiew Sien of Malaysia also passed the first round test beating Jaqueline Lima/Samia Lima of Brazil 21-10, 21-5 in the first round. They will next face Du Yue/Li Wen Mei from China.
