Foreign Affairs Committee subcommittee on international climate and energy policy visits India
A delegation from the Sub-Committee on International Climate and Energy Policy of the Committee on Foreign Affairs will visit India from 4 to 9 December. India is the fourth largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the world and at the same time particularly affected by extreme weather events such as heat, drought and floods. The country plays a crucial role in tackling the climate crisis as the world’s second largest coal producer, importer and consumer, which is why India was chosen as the subcommittee’s post-COP27 destination.
Expectations are particularly high for the Indo-German Partnership for Green and Sustainable Development and the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) sought with G7 countries. Meanwhile, the visit will also discuss Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modis’ goals for India’s upcoming G20 Presidency.
The delegation will meet with representatives of the Indian government and regional parliaments. She visits flagship projects for renewable energy and mobility and talks to representatives of civil society organizations and start-ups. The delegation includes MPs Lisa Badum, Bündnis 90/Die Grünen (chair), Karamba Diaby (SPD), Manfred Grund (CDU/CSU), Olaf in der Beek (FDP) and Stefan Keuter (AfD).
