India: finding the last lion in Asia
India: finding the last lion in Asia – (FRANCE 2)
This is an endangered species: the Asiatic lion. Once widespread, they are now found only in one national park located in northwestern India.
They are the last representatives of an endangered species: the Asiatic lion. Currently there are only 600 left in the wild. They live in the forest in western India, namely Gir. A family of enthusiasts embarks on a safari in the hope of observing them. “I am very proud of the Asian lion. This animal is the pride of India”, said the woman. After a few minutes, the first lion appeared and then moved away.
Forest rangers to preserve the species
To see it up close, you have to follow Yogendra Shah, a wildlife photographer. He studied it behind his lens. If lions are also present in the Tir forests, it is thanks to the conservation efforts of the Indian authorities. About a hundred forest guards were assigned to watch over them. “I am happy to ensure their safety. (…) We love these animals very much”said one of them.
