FM Sitharaman inaugurated the GST Enforcement Heads' Conference on Monday

NEW DELHI: Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will on Monday inaugurate a conference of enforcement chiefs of all state and central GST officials to combat tax evasion. The conference will deliberate GST (Goods and Services Tax) formations on combating GST avoidance, including examining current challenges and engaging with successful methods adopted by central and state tax enforcement officials.

It would also develop strategies for effective methods to combat counterfeit invoices, share best practices, promote synergies and leverage technology and data.

The conference will also focus on making it easier to do business and will discuss striking a crucial balance between facilitating a seamless business environment and implementing effective and dissuasive enforcement measures.

Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will inaugurate the one-day conference and also deliver the keynote address on March 4, a finance ministry statement said.

This conference, he said, embodies the spirit of cooperative federalism embodied by GST and will provide a valuable platform for both the GST enforcement authorities at the Center and the states to share best practices, promote mutual learning and jointly manage GST administration strengthen, it continued.
