Bad Bunny Becomes Executive Producer of Netflix Series Queer
Last month, he broke all streaming records and is the world’s most streamed artist for the third year in a row. Now the singer has signed on as executive producer for the upcoming Netflix adaptation of The New York Times bestseller They Both Die at the Ending, Rolling Stone confirms. The series, based on the Adam Silvera novel, is also joined by Bridgerton creator Chris Van Dusen, Yellowjackets producer Drew Comins and Silvera himself.
The series asks: what would we do if we knew when we were going to die? The book centers on two characters, Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio, who both receive a call from Death-Cast, a society that predicts human death. After learning their fate, the two strangers meet through an app called “Last Friend” and they have “one last great adventure – living an entire life in a single day,” according to the synopsis.
Van Dusen will write the screenplay for the series They Both Die at the End, which made The New York Times Bestseller List in 2017 as the first young adult novel with queer Latino characters. During the pandemic, the novel enjoyed a resurgence in popularity thanks to TikTok’s #BookTok, becoming the best-selling young adult book of 2021 and reclaiming the top spot on The Times’ coveted list.
This is Bad Bunny’s first time as an executive producer on a series, but he does have acting experience in Hollywood. He starred in the action comedy Bullet Train opposite Brad Pitt last year. He also appeared in the “Narcos: Mexico” series and he will also appear in the upcoming Spider-Man universe film “El Muerto”.
Bad Bunny has also consistently expressed solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2020, he wore a T-shirt that read “They killed Alexa. Not a man in a skirt,” protesting anti-trans media coverage of the murder of Alexa. a Puerto Rican transgender woman. Alexa Negrón Luciano.
The following year, he appeared in the music video for “Yo Perreo Sola” (“I Twerk Alone”) in drag, a song about women wanting to dance in clubs without men noticing them. Although he expected a strong anti-LGBTQ+ reaction to the video, he was not deterred. “I did it to show my support for those in need.” he told Rolling Stone. “I may not be gay, but I’m a caring person.“
Study shows: vinyl boom, especially among Gen Z
A new study by the American company “Luminate” now contains very precise statements about how music was heard in 2022. To this end, a large collection of data from around the world was analyzed. For example, streaming numbers, physical and digital sales, and social media clicks were considered. While CD purchases are down, we are witnessing a clear boom in vinyl. But: Only 50% of all record buyers have their own record player at home. Vinyl records are back in fashion – but most of them just hang on the wall, it seems.
While most of the world almost exclusively streams music, Taylor Swift fans primarily buy physical sound carriers. 62% of his fans bought vinyl, CDs or cassettes of his album “Midnights” last year. She broke a record: half a million records were sold in the first week.
The records are more of a relic of the older generation, but data shows that most vinyl fans are Gen Z, between the ages of 13 and 28. What’s more, Gen Z also spends more money on music as a whole than any other age group – on streaming and records, cassettes, but also merchandising. Most of them discover new music through short clips on TikTok or Snapchat, but also through series.
The big winners of 2022 are Bad Bunny, Beyoncé and Taylor Swift – their albums all hit No. 1 on the charts, but while Bad Bunny did it with all-digital streams, Beyoncé’s Renaissance was a bit less than half of a streaming audience’s listeners. At Taylor Swift, the proportion of digital streams to physical sales is even lower.
Fan-favorite topics were also broken down by genre in the search: For most genres, such as hip-hop, rock, and Latin, mental health tops the list for fans.

Rapper Loyle Carner trades tickets for grandma’s recipes
You really want to go to a concert, maybe you wait a second too long – and then it’s already sold out! That’s exactly what happened to Loyle Carner fans. But the rapper has a solution so his fans can still get tickets for his European tour, which is sold out except for one concert. The rapper announced on Twitter that he was swapping tickets for football shirts, Loyle Carner tattoos or grandma’s recipes. This is why some people got Loyle Carner tattoos, including the cover photo of his album “Not waving, but drowning”. Another fan posted photos of Grandma’s favorite prosciutto and bechamel filled pasta recipe in the comments. Someone else writes their master’s thesis on Loyle’s Hugo album from last year and asks if that counts as grounds for a post. A fan even asks if the grandmother could be traded.
