AIPH: Winning cities of the World Green City Awards 2022

The announcement of the winners of the AIPH World Green City Awards 2022 took place during a festive award ceremony, which took place on October 14, 2022 as part of a gala dinner.

Of the AIPH is proud to be a laureate of the AIPH Global Green City Awards 2022 announce. The announcement of six category winners and Grand Prize Winner took place during a ceremony Awardsorganized during a gala dinner at the IUCN Leaders Forum in Jeju Autonomous Province, Republic of Korea on 14 October 2022.

The most prestigious prize of the inaugural 2022 edition, the Grand Winner, was awarded to the city which, in the opinion of the jury, demonstrated with its contribution the greatest impact, the best replicability and the greatest capacity to inspire change. To make their decision, the members of the jury were asked to consider the following question:

“The AIPH World Green City Awards 2022 enable winning cities to gain greater recognition for their inspiring initiatives – which contribution do you think could have the greatest transformative impact?”

It is a great honor and a privilege for AIPH to receive the award for Big winners of the AIPH World Green City Awards 2022:

The grand prize winner was chosen from a list of six category winners selected to win a trophy in recognition of their achievements. AIPH and its partners are proud to present the following six winners:

“The AIPH World Green City Awards recognize inspiring leadership and successful action on key issues cities face when it comes to being sustainable and doing something for nature, climate and people,” says Dr. Bruno Oberlé, Director General of IUCN. “The range of actions undertaken by the laureates shows how important the role healthy ecosystems providing solutions games that cities need to continue to thrive.

All eligible entries were reviewed and judged, and the winners were announced in a two-step evaluation process selected. After the first round of judging by the expert panel, a list of 18 finalists was presented to the world-renowned jury for the 2022 awards ceremony. In the second phase, the jury was tasked with voting for one winner in each of the six categories and then select the grand prize winner from those six category winners.

All 18 finalist cities received at the awards ceremony certificates for a high distinction and six other cities received certificates of merit. Case studies of all finalist cities, including category winners, are available in AIPH’s Green Cities Case Study Library.

With the highly anticipated announcement of the 2022 winners, the AIPH and its partners conclude the first edition of the first global green city awards. The resounding success of the 2022 edition paved the way for the AIPH World Green City Awards 2024. AIPH and IUCN also announced a new collaboration for the 2024 awards at the 2022 ceremony in Jeju. At the 2024 edition, AIPH and its growing network of partners will recognize and celebrate the work of an even wider variety of inspiring cities around the world championing the power of plants and nature.
