For his first trip abroad this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make a three-day visit to Germany, Denmark and France from May 2 amid the crisis in Ukraine and Europe’s firm approach to dealing with it.

Announcing the trip, the Foreign Office (MEA) said on Wednesday that the Prime Minister will travel first to Germany and then to Denmark, where he will make a brief layover on his May 4 return trip to Paris.

In Paris, Modi is in talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, who won re-election as president on Monday after defeating his presidential rival, Marine Le Pen.

“In Berlin, the prime minister will hold bilateral talks with German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholes, and the two leaders will co-chair the sixth edition of the Indo-German Government Consultation (IGC),” the MEA said. Report.

This is Modi’s first meeting with incumbent President Scholes since his predecessor Angela Merkel last December.

Russia’s occupation of Ukraine will be reflected in Modi’s talks with European leaders from the three countries.

In her speech in Raisina on Monday, European Commission President Ursula van der Leyen said Europe would ensure that Moscow’s “unwarranted and unjustified” aggression against Ukraine was a strategic defeat, reflecting the EU’s firm position in the face of Russian occupation.

India has not publicly condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine, calling for a negotiated and diplomatic solution to the conflict.

“During his visit, the Prime Minister and President Scholes will jointly address a business event. The Prime Minister will also speak to the Indian community in Germany,” MEA said.

2021 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Germany and the two countries have been strategic partners since 2000.

“This visit will be an opportunity to strengthen and intensify cooperation in various sectors and for the two governments to exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual concern,” said MEA.

From Germany, Modi traveled to Copenhagen at the invitation of Danish Prime Minister Matteo Frederickson. He also participated in the second Indo-Nordic Summit hosted by Denmark.

Bilateral elements of the visit included talks with Frederickson and an audience with Queen Margaret II, MEA said.

“The Green Strategic Partnership is the first type of arrangement between India and Denmark. This visit will be an opportunity for both sides to reconsider their progress and explore ways to further expand our multilateral cooperation,” MEA said.

“During the visit, the Prime Minister will visit the India-Denmark Chamber of Commerce and speak with Indian expatriate members,” he said.

At the Indo-Nordic summit, Modi will speak with other Nordic leaders, including Icelandic Prime Minister Katherine Jakobstotir, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Kerr Store, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Anderson and Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin.

MEA said the summit will focus on post-epidemic economic recovery, climate change, innovation and technology, renewable energy, the emerging global security environment, and Indo-Nordic cooperation in the Arctic region.

“On his return journey on May 4, the Prime Minister will stay in Paris for a while to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron,” MEA said.

“India and France celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations this year, and the meeting between the two leaders will set the most ambitious agenda for a strategic partnership,” he said.
