Badminton News: Indian badminton duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will lead the country's participation in the prestigious All England Open 2024, starting March 12 in Birmingham.
The world number one pair who won gold at the Asian Games are among the favorites to win the coveted title.
Satwik and Chirag have been in great form this season, reaching back-to-back finals at the Malaysian Open and Indian Open. The Indian pair will be looking forward to winning their maiden Super 1000 title at the All England.
Meanwhile, HS Prannoy will spearhead India's challenge in the men's singles event, where they are seeded seventh. The world number seven who won bronze medals at the Asian Games and BWF World Championships last year will attempt to win his first title in Birmingham.
Prannoy has struggled with his fitness this season, having lost in the first round of the Malaysian Open. He will look to bounce back and improve his performance at the 2023 All England Open Championship, where he reached the round of 16, losing to Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.
The other participating Indian men's singles players are Kidambi Srikanth, Lakshya Sen and Priyanshu Rajawat, who have never progressed past the quarter-finals this season.
In the women's singles event, 2019 world champion PV Sindhu will be the only Indian representative to qualify for the main draw. The world number twelve, who has won 5 medals at the championships, will be looking to start fresh after injury.
In the women's doubles sector, two Indian pairs will act together, namely Tanisha Crasto/Ashwini Ponnappa and also the semi-finalists of the last two seasons Gayatri Gopichand/Treesa Jolly.
