Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indian golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar is now closing in on the 2023 Indonesia Masters title after remaining firmly at the top of the leaderboard until the third round on Saturday.
Through three rounds, Bhullar recorded a score of 20 under. In the first round, he completed 18 holes in 63 strokes, then in the second round, he completed 18 holes in 67 strokes, and in the third round, he completed 18 holes in 63 strokes.
“I played pretty well today. I just focus on my strengths. For tomorrow, I will do like today, and as long as I can still be in the match, I will do my best. “There is no particular strategy, I just play the ball,” Bhullar said when met in Jakarta on Saturday.
Regarding how the third round went, Bhullar said he was able to appear calm and focused. He said both of those were important factors in his strong performance today.
“I think I can also play relaxed because this is my 17th year on tour. “This way I can appear more relaxed and without any particular burden,” Bhullar said.
“I just show my respect for the sport of golf and then try to play patiently, and I think that’s also the result of my experiences so far,” he added.
When asked if there were other factors that made him appear dominant again, Bhullar said the presence of fans directly supporting him in Jakarta helped him stay confident.
“I think their presence really motivates me to continue and have confidence. This Saturday, a lot of people came to support me, especially when my balls were about to come in. “It’s a special motivation for me,” he said.
On the other hand, if Bhullar wins the final round on Sunday, it will also make him the first Indian golfer to win at least three prestigious tournaments in Indonesia, having already won the Indonesia President Invitational and the Indonesian Open 2023.
“Wow, to be honest, I never thought of that. I think it’s really cool. My goal tomorrow is to do my best. “As long as I do that, I’ll be fine,” he said.
The Indonesian Masters 2023 tournament will continue until Sunday. The tournament, which will be held for the 11th time, offers a total prize pool of $1.5 million, or approximately IDR 23 billion, and is now part of the Asian Tour international series.
