In our “Around the World in Five Questions” series we regularly take you on a journey to another country whose current condition should concern us all. We ask what drives society and politics, look at current events and discuss fundamental conflicts and social developments.
In our current conversation, we speak with Uta Dirksen and Sebastian Sperling, two heads of the foundation’s South African office. In addition to the general current situation in the country, the focus is mainly on the country’s role in the so-called “BRICS countries” (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and attitudes towards the war in Ukraine.
Views were also taken on climate change in the country and the elections to be held next year. It is currently thought that the ANC (African National Congress), which has been in power since 1994 and of which Nelson Mandela was a member, is at risk of losing its absolute majority for the first time.
We would like to invite you to take a closer look at this important topic. The entire online conversation recording is available here: www.salve.tv/tv/Salve/22736
