A heat wave sweeps across the planet causing additional casualties. In India, in the state of Gujarat, dozens of birds and bats fall every day, exhausted and dehydrated, vets and rescuers report to Reuters news agency. At the veterinary hospital in Ahmedabad, doctors say the situation has persisted for several weeks: nearly 2,000 birds have been treated by them.
“We receive at least 50 to 60 dehydrated birds every day”, explained to AFP Gira Shah, head of the veterinary hospital. The figure is an increase of 10% according to Manoj Bhavsar, one of the rescuers. “This year was one of the worst in recent times,” he complained to Reuters.
