Xiaomi India aims to educate 300 students in business sectors

Xiaomi India on Wednesday announced the launch of “Mission 300”, a new training program. The training program aims to mentor college students. Mission 300 is the brand’s flagship program, training over 300 students from 100 business schools across India in business areas such as After Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Category, HR and Finance.

As part of the initiative, Xiaomi India plans to identify suitable roles for the new employees, where they will be deployed in different functions based on their skills and the business needs of the respective departments, the company claimed in its press release. The selected candidates go through a one-month training program and are given the opportunity to interact with senior management. They also give the new employees an insight into the respective departments and how they work.

Varun Madan, Senior Director HR of Xiaomi India, said that bringing newcomers into the company ushers in new ideas, high levels of energy and enthusiasm, and the average age of employees in the company decreases a bit.

“At Xiaomi we have always made big bets on young talent. About 7-8 years ago we hired many interns who have been converted to full time and run a very successful part of the company for us. Out of 305 positions that we hired, about 50-55 percent are women,” said Madan. He said the workforce at the company has now grown to around 1,550, while indirect employment took the total to over 60,000 people.

Xiaomi also supports students from MBA institutes in other programs for young people, the management training program and the Mi Launch Pad. Through Mi Summit, Xiaomi India claims to have onboarded an average of 30 MBA students annually via campus internships from the top 30 colleges in the country.
