Badminton News: Men’s Doubles World Champions, Aaron Chia / Soh Wooi Yik have a good chance to continue their fine form at the Danish Open Super 750 October 18-23 after securing a favorable draw.
Men’s National Doubles No. The world number 1 will be eager to return to the tournament after his historic win last month and is set to win his opening match against world number 11 duo Mark Lamfsfuss/Marvin Seidel of Germany.
World number 5 Aaron/Wooi Yik also struggled to beat Christopher Grimley/Matthew Grimley of Scotland or Lucas Corvee/Ronan Labar of France in the second half.
However, they could face their first real test in the quarter-finals in the form of Indian world number 8 duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty.
But Aaron/Wooi Yik beat India in the last meeting of the World Championships and haven’t lost to them in the last six meetings.
Doubles Coaching Director Rexy Mainaky was quite happy with the draw and felt that Aaron/Wooi Yik should go far in the tournament.
“Aaron / Wooi Yik’s preparations for the Danish Open are going well. The results of the draw seem correct. Both feel confident to go far in the competition,” said Rexy.
The pair are yet to win the Open title even though they did win the world title and will be ready to rectify that.
