Indian Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday urged the youth to work with commitment and dedication to succeed and make India a developed nation by 2047.
Addressing the 'Impact With Youth Conclave 2024' on International Youth Day, the Minister said that the portal 'Mera Yuva Bharat 'MY Bharat' launched by the Centre will be a one-stop shop for the youth.
This year’s International Youth Day is themed “From Clicks to Progress: Youth’s Digital Pathways to Sustainable Development” and highlights the importance of digitalisation and the central role young people play in this change.
“The population of this country is 1.4 billion people. It is our collective responsibility to make India a developed nation. In such a situation, the youth have a special responsibility,” said Mandaviya.
Stressing the importance of youth in realising the vision of a developed India by 2047, the 100th year of Independence, he said the government would leave no stone unturned to ensure financial security of the young generation.
The central government is trying to empower the country's youth by creating opportunities for them, he said.
“I have noticed two or three common traits in successful people that I have adopted in my life. One common trait was the dedication and commitment with which they worked. Dedication and commitment, along with hard work, and the fourth is a goal… Set a goal. Work with dedication and commitment to achieve the goal and nothing can stop you from being successful,” the minister said.
“Today, on International Youth Day, pledge to succeed for your country and for yourself. If you pursue this goal, you will succeed and we will make India a developed nation when it celebrates the centenary of its independence,” he said.
The Union Minister said that around 15 million people have registered with 'MY Bharat', which aims to become a one-stop shop for the youth.
“In the coming days, the MY Bharat portal will become a one-stop shop for young people to help them determine their future. It will help them with career opportunities, enrolments and applications,” Mandaviya later told reporters.
MY Bharat users can connect with national and international systems, he said.
“Volunteers will visit 5,000 college campuses and make a presentation on MY Bharat and explain how youth can benefit from the internship programme and other initiatives announced in the Union Budget,” he said.
Mandaviya said he has spoken to 12-15 youth groups in the last two months and consulted around 500 youth to seek their suggestions on how to make MY Bharat stronger.
The Union Minister called on young people to give priority to their commitment to the country alongside their careers.
UNICEF Representative in India and Co-Chair of the UNICEF YuWaah Board, Cynthia McCaffrey, stressed the importance of involving young people in global action.
“International Youth Day reminds us of the immense contribution young people make to their communities and the world,” she said.
“We are committed to improving young people’s access to skills training, volunteering, innovation, entrepreneurship and other economic opportunities through our close and long-standing partnership with the Government of India and by harnessing youth potential through digital platforms such as YouthHub,” she said.
