IT giant Wipro has fired more than 400 new employees for poor performance on internal placement tests.
The company has issued letters of resignation to all affected employees, stating that despite adequate training, they failed to perform.
Sources said the termination letter claimed the employees were required to pay Rs 75,000 of the training costs the company had spent on them. However, the amount is waived.
“We would like to inform you that the Rs 75,000 training fee that you have to pay will be waived,” the letter said.
Commenting on the development, the IT giant made it clear that it prides itself on holding to the highest standards.
“Each entry-level employee is expected to have a certain level of competency in their intended area of work. The assessment process involves aligning employees with the needs of customers and the business goals of the organization.
“This systematic and comprehensive evaluation process is followed by a series of measures such as mentoring, retraining and separation of employees from the company,” it says.
