Badminton News: India’s rising men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have successfully climbed two places to 8th in the world in the latest rankings released by the Badminton World Federation on Tuesday evening (18/1) local time.

Former world champion Sindhu retains seventh position with 90,994 points in the women’s singles standings while Srikanth remains in the top 10 in the world with 69,158 points in the men’s singles standings.
Tai Tzu of China Taipei leads the women’s singles standings with 108,800 points while defending Olympic champion Victor Axelsen leads the men’s singles with 116,779 points.
From the Indian national team, the biggest winners were the men’s doubles duo, Satwiksairaj and Chirag, who rose from tenth to eighth place with 76,708 points in the latest ranking published by the BWF.
They beat top-ranked Indonesian pair Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan 21-16, 26-24 to claim the men’s doubles crown at the Yonex-Sunrise India Open on Sunday (16/1).
Going into the match with a 1-3 head-to-head record, Satwik and Chirag made a bold effort against the Indonesian pair and prevented a counterattack from reigning supreme in the final.
Satwik and Chirag won the Thai Open Super 500 title in 2019, in addition to reaching the French Open Super 750 final the same year.
No Indian pair appeared in the top 10 in the women’s and mixed doubles sectors.
