Lombok, ITS News — Two teams of energy efficient cars from Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) once again made a proud achievement at the international level. This time, the ITS Sapuangin team won the first place on track on the category Urban Concept internal combustion engine and the ITS Antasena team won third place on track category Hydrogen Fuel Cell Prototype about the event Shell Eco-Marathon (SEM) Asia-Pacific and Middle East 2023 at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, Lombok which ended on Sunday (9/7).
In fact, the Sapuangin team managed to take third place to represent Asia-Pacific and the Middle East in the 2023 Drivers’ World Championship (DWC) which will be held in India. The Sapuangin and Antasena team won several other awards at SEM 2023. On the run off road race category Virtual programsthe ITS Sapuangin team won first place Data and telemetry prices. Not only that, in the racing category nature friendlythe ITS Antasena team also won second place Carbon Footprint Reduction Award.
event on track divided into two categories of vehicles, namely Prototype and urban concept with three energy fuel numbers viz. Internal combustion, battery electricAnd Hydrogen fuel cells. This prestigious competition organized by the oil and gas company Shell brought together more than 70 teams from 13 countries in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions such as India, Korea, Singapore, Indonesia and others. World champions China and Thailand have always excelled in craftsmanship and craftsmanship.
Even closer, the ITS Sapuangin team with the Sapuangin XI Evo 3 car which participated in the SEM 2023 managed to overcome the challenges posed. Namely, do a race of three laps with a total distance of 12.3 kilometers and a time limit of 30 minutes. The ITS Sapuangin team succeeded in meeting this challenge with an energy efficiency result of 422.9 kilometers per litre.
The feat of the ITS Sapuangin team actually managed to show a brilliant appearance throughout the race, due to the speed and tenacity of the car. From the start of the match, Sapuangin’s car was able to maintain its lead and dominate the race. Of course, this has not escaped the realization of the efficiency of the car designed by the ITS student team which managed to use up to 30 milliliters of fuel energy for three rounds of competition on the circuit.
Bayu Irfansyah Putra, general manager of the ITS Sapuangin team, explained that the car, which is 2.6 meters long, 1.3 meters wide and 1.1 meters high, is designed respectful of nature or environmentally friendly and energy efficient. “A branch of competition, carbon footprint reductioninspiring our team to put processes in place to produce environmentally friendly products,” said the Mechanical Engineering Department student.
Talking about the results, based on the ranking of 1st place in the energy efficiency category, the team led by Dr. Ir Wityanto MEngSc showed impressive excellence and successfully qualified to continue to the stage. of the competition. on track and then to qualify for the DWC 2023 event. This achievement not only made ITS a name regionally, but also became a strong representation of Asia-Pacific and the Middle East in the global competition.
In this fierce match on the international circuit, the ITS Sapuangin team managed to cross the finish line in third place. Based on the ranking records, in the first round they managed to take first place with 80.1% of the energy remaining. Followed by a very dramatic second and third round, followed by a team from Yogyakarta State University (UNY) which moved ITS Sapuangin team to third place with 64.8% and 46% energy remaining.
Bayu also revealed that other college teams in Indonesia have a high competitive spirit, making them the toughest opponents in the SEM 2023 event. the best innovations to support better outcomes in the future,” he said optimistically.
Not only the ITS Sapuangin team, the car bearing the name of Antasena Alpha of the ITS Antasena team has also achieved feats on this circuit. ITS Antasena Team General Manager Ghany Aqiilah said that in the SEM 2023 competition, his team fell into the vehicle category. Prototyping concept with energy number Hydrogen fuel cells. In this category, participants are challenged to design a car with materials that are strong but light, efficient Fuel cell and high electric motor, low friction transmission system, and integrated sensor to communicate the status of the car to Drivers.
To meet this challenge, according to the student often referred to as Ghany, Antasena Alpha is designed with a more aerodynamic composite body design. carbon fiber which is stiff and light. This is the master key to an energy-efficient car. “In addition, Antasena Alpha also uses frame type ladder frame lightweight and strong aluminum to support a load of around 150 kilograms,” says Ghany.
This student from the Department of Materials and Metallurgy Engineering continued, development has also been done on the transmission system by increasing the efficiency of the transmission system on the drive parts that use DC motors. In addition, important factors that also affect energy efficient cars, namely wheels and tires. The Antasena Alpha car uses wheels with composite materials carbon fiber and light tires by type flat tire.
Thanks to these various innovations developed, Antasena Alpha is able to drive with an energy efficiency of 215 kilometers per cubic meter. Until finally managed to bring the ITS Antasena team to become the third winner in this category. “In the future, it is hoped that the ITS Antasena team can perform even better and win the trophy winner in SEM On track Program 2024,” he concluded hopefully.
The team’s courage and resilience in the face of technical problems is clear evidence of their dedication to creating reliable and efficient vehicles. Thanks to the achievements presented, the future of the car rests hydrogen fuel cell more and more promising. (ITS PR)
