An invitation to a gala dinner at the G-20 summit in New Delhi caused an uproar. In it, India is referred to as “Bharat”. The opposition fears the government will change the name of the country.
In preparation for the G-20 Summit in New Delhi next weekend, the first invitations for the official gala dinner have been sent out. The letter, which is now causing a furore in India, is very grand and fits the bill.
In the center is India’s national emblem, the symbol of several lions on an ornate lotus base. “On the occasion of the G-20 Summit,” read the title above. Below, right after the lion symbol, are the words that have now become the catalyst for major debate in India: “President Bharat has the honor to enjoy your company…” it read. Then followed by the name of the person invited. In addition to the heads of state and government of twenty leading industrial and developing countries, high-ranking diplomats and politicians were also invited to the banquet. There is nothing wrong with the tone and presentation of the invitation published by various media in India.
