As live commerce – selling products through social media – grows in popularity in countries like China, a survey conducted by LocalCircles shows that Indian online shoppers believe livestream shopping will be useful as it increases interaction when purchasing the Favor items in shops and markets.
Seven in ten Indian online shoppers believe live commerce will help them reach someone for product demos, returns, warranty and pricing. Approximately 35% said they would discuss pricing/discounts with a seller representative when live commerce is rolled out.
The survey feedback also suggested that online platforms may consider introducing live commerce for high value products valued at over Rs 10,000.
Live commerce likely has the potential to drive the next wave of growth for Indian e-commerce customers.
Of the 21,000 respondents, 69% of ecommerce users surveyed said live interactions between sellers and platform representatives during shopping will be useful.
Additionally, 54% of respondents want the live interaction to “answer any questions about terms of sale and customer service,” while 50% want it to “answer any questions about the product.”
When asked how likely ecommerce shoppers are to attend product demonstrations via scheduled live commerce interactions, 61% said they would be interested in attending such events, while 35% of respondents said they would not attend such meetings and would instead “buy at will”.
However, when certain brands are planning a live demo of their products on e-commerce platforms, 61% of respondents say they are interested in attending the event, while 4% say they could buy on-site.
From this it can be concluded that 6 out of 10 online shoppers are willing to visit the live trade for the product they are looking for and this segment is bound to grow when marketed by influencers and celebrities big or small.
This survey showed that India should not also adopt live commerce standards proposed by ISO or China, but also create their own.
