Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – WhatsApp announced that nearly 2.4 million accounts in India were blocked last July. This number is the highest in 2022.
The number of blocked accounts from July 1 to July 31, 2022 was 2,387,000 accounts. Of these, 1.42 million of them had been blocked before there were reports from users of the platform, quoted ReutersFriday (2/9/2022).
For information, WhatsApp blocks user accounts in several ways. One of them consists of user complaints submitted through the company’s complaint channel.
Additionally, WhatsApp also provides tools and resources to detect breaches on the platform.
During the month of July, Meta’s instant messaging platform received a total of 574 complaints. Meanwhile, the number of accounts deleted a month earlier in India was 2.21 million.
WhatsApp has already been heavily criticized. Because the platform is seen as spreading fake news and hate speech in India.
Meanwhile, India’s IT laws require tech giants to issue compliance reports. The report must be published monthly.
