United States commits to strengthening technological cooperation with India

Jakarta: the united states of america (The United States) and India are committed to continuing to strengthen cooperation in various areas, including technology. Both countries are also committed to deepening their partnership within the QUAD alliance.

The commitment to strengthening relations with India was expressed on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, by US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell during a webinar from Washington DC. India Not so long ago, New Delhi was one of Washington's important technology partners.

“We discussed strengthening strategic cooperation, including in the areas of space, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, biotechnology and others,” Campbell told webinar participants.

“The United States is deeply engaged with India. Building technology is at the heart of our cooperation,” he continued.

Strengthening technological cooperation is not without obstacles. When it comes specifically to technology transfer, several obstacles concern the United States.

Some fear that the technology India obtains from the United States could potentially be shared with rival countries such as Russia. In this regard, Campbell admitted to having expressed these concerns directly to India.

“We have also established working groups to address bureaucratic challenges in both countries,” Campbell said.

QUAD partnership

Campbell said the QUAD partnership was also discussed in India regarding Indo-Pacific issues. He said the United States and India, along with two other QUAD members, namely Japan and Australia, were committed to holding a summit this year.

Several potential locations and dates for the 2024 Quad Summit were also discussed. Previously, there were indications that this year's summit would be held in India.

“There has been great progress between the United States and India on Indo-Pacific issues. We have discussed a variety of issues together, from security to trade and technology,” Campbell said.

“We appreciate India’s central role in the Indian Ocean and also support India’s maritime domain awareness,” he continued.
