In 2014, Russia illegally annexed the Crimean peninsula in the Black Sea. For nine years, the Kremlin regime has been spreading the word that Crimea belongs to Russia and will be Russia’s forever. Ironically, the Russian embassy is now questioning this viewpoint through curious social media posts.
On Platform X (formerly Twitter), the Russian embassy in South Africa published a world map in which the BRICS countries are highlighted in green: In addition to the founding members Russia, China, India, Brazil and South Africa, they will also count from January 1 Argentina, Ethiopia, Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates Besides that.
The post was titled “New multipolar world reality”. All claim that BRICS members must, by their own definition, form a “counterweight” to – especially, to the hated West – being grayed out on the map.
Interesting: On their maps, the embassy’s social media strategists forget about Crimea, which is so important to the Kremlin tyrant Vladimir Putin (70). On closer inspection, observant X users notice that, like Ukraine, it is displayed in gray.
Well! Will annexed Crimea also belong to Ukraine again for Russia?
Almost impossible, and in the Kremlin, the post must have caused a lot of trouble. As a result, the image disappeared from the embassy’s channels shortly after being published. It was initially unclear whether the post was an error or intentional. So far neither Moscow nor the embassy in South Africa has commented on this.
Crazy: Another Russian embassy made a social media blunder in January. Country representatives in Sweden have published maps of fuel prices in Russia and Europe on Twitter. Ukraine and the four eastern regions of Donbass illegally annexed by Russia are colored yellow by the embassy – and not green like Russia.
Ukraine continues to carry out attacks on Crimea
Meanwhile, Ukraine continued to attack Russian targets in occupied Crimea. His leadership also justified his attacks with Western approval. The adviser to the presidential office, Mykhailo Podoliak, said late on Tuesday: “Today there is an absolute consensus that we can destroy all Russians in the occupied territories, for example in Crimea.”
Podoljak also referred to the recent statement by Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (42, Green Party). When asked about Ukrainian drone attacks reported by Russia, including against Moscow, Baerbock said on Monday: “Russia attacked Ukraine.”
The Green Party politician added: “Russia is constantly bombing civilian targets in Ukraine, grain elevators, hospitals and churches. And Ukraine is defending itself within the framework of international law.” Podoliak continued: “We didn’t start this war.”
Zelenskyj is contemplating a political solution
While Ukrainian troops are currently trying to recapture occupied territories in the south of the country and advancing on the Crimean coast, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (45) is now considering a political solution for the peninsula.

In an interview on Sunday, which was picked up by several Ukrainian media outlets, he said: “If we are on the administrative borders of Crimea, I think you can politically impose the Russian demilitarization of the peninsula.”
According to Zelenskyy, this is a better solution because it will involve fewer victims. At the same time, Zelenskyy emphasized in interviews that he did not want to shift the war to Russian territory. The goal is the liberation of their own territory. Conversely, if Ukraine advances deep into Russian territory, there is a risk of losing support from Western partners and having to fight Russia alone.
