Two Chinese representatives withdraw from Indian Open 2023 final

Badminton News: There were two withdrawals, both featuring the Chinese pair, on the final day of the YONEX SUNRISE India Open 2023 due to poor health.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalist Wang Yi Lyu, who will play the mixed doubles final with Huang Dong Ping, and China’s world No. 1 player, Chen Qing Chen, who will play the women’s doubles final with Jia Yi Fan, are reported to be ill due to diarrhea and have withdrawn from their respective matches.

As a result, the mixed doubles title went to Japanese pair aces Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino, while the women’s doubles crown went to another Japanese representative, Nami Matsuyama/Chiharu Shida.

Wang Yi Lyu/Huang Dong Ping had already entered the Indian Open 2023 final by beating South Korean representatives Kim Won Ho/Jeong Na Eun in a close battle with a score of 21-15, 12-21 and 21-19.

World champions Chen Qing Cen/Jia Yi Fan advance to the Indian Open 2023 final by beating Korean women’s doubles Jeong Na Eun/Kim Hye Jeong 21-15 21-12, while Nami Matsuyama/ Chiharu Shida defeat Malaysia’s 2022 French Open champion Pearly Tan/M Thinaah with back-to-back matches 21-14 and 21-16.

Japan has the chance to add another women’s singles sector title if world champion Akane Yamaguchi can beat South Korea’s main player An Se Young.
