India has demonstrated the capability to operate two aircraft carriers in the complex geopolitical environment of the Middle East and Indian Ocean. The Indian Navy deployed two of its aircraft carriers, INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant, according to “NewsweekExhibited in late February and early March.
Mission in the Red Sea
The Indian Navy has played an active role in the Red Sea in recent months as the Houthis continue to target cargo ships. On March 6, the Indian Navy rescued the MV True Confidence, a Barbados-flagged merchant ship that was targeted by the Houthis in a ballistic missile attack.
According to Newsweek, the Chinese military accused the Indian Navy of carrying out the rescue mission in the Red Sea as a “publicity stunt.” China and India are competitors for supremacy in Asia. India is increasingly increasing its efforts to catch up with China in the economic and military fields.
New base
The Indian Navy inaugurated a new base called Minicoy Island in the Lakshadweep Archipelago in early March. It is located near the Maldives, a traditional ally of India. Plans to further enhance the strategic value of Minicoy are underway.
It remains interesting to see where India's military expansion leads and how the country plans to further expand its geopolitical power.
