Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indian police have summoned Twitter officials in the country for failing to stop violent videos going viral on the platform.
Police in northern Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad are investigating the case after a video went viral on Twitter. In the video, several people can be seen beating an old man and cutting off his beard.

“Some people use their Twitter accounts to spread hatred and hostility in society. Twitter is not responsible,” said the summons reviewed by Reuters on Friday.
Ghaziabad police have summoned Twitter India head Manish Maheshwari to comply with the police summons within seven days from the date of the letter.
Twitter declined to comment on the matter.
Indian Technology Minister Ravei Shankar Prasad said some time ago that Twitter was not complying with the country’s new regulations.
If they do not comply, according to Indian regulations, companies must be responsible for the content posted by users and can be punished.
