Badminton News: Commonwealth Games bronze medalist pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will carry India's medal hopes in the absence of Paris Olympics-bound players at the BWF World Tour Super 300 US Open 2024, which will begin in Texas on Wednesday.
World number 24 Indian pair Treesa/Gayatri, finalists at the Singapore Open Super 750 in May-June, are the second seed in the women's doubles draw of the Super 300 tournament.
Treesa and Gayatri received a bye to the round of 16 where they will face two top seeds Hseih Pei Shan and Hung En-Tzu of Chinese Taipei.
Fresh from their victory at the Malaysia Masters in May, Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi are expected to pull out all the stops for a summit clash against the Indian duo.
With less than a month to go before the Olympics, Indian players PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty and Ashwini Ponnappa/Tanisha Crasto missed the tournament.
In men's singles, eighth-seeded Priyanshu Rajawat is the best Indian player in the draw and will open his campaign against Czech Jan Louda.
Ayush Shetty and S Sankar Muthuswamy Subramanian are the other two Indian players in the men's singles.
Shetty will face Singapore's Jia Heng Jason Teh while Muthuswamy will open his campaign against a qualifier.
Seventh seed Malvika Bansod is the top Indian player in the women's singles draw and will begin her campaign against Estonian Kristin Kuuba.
Unseeded Tanya Hemanth is the other Indian player competing in the women's singles and she will face fifth seed Wen Chi Hsu of China Taipei.
In men's doubles, Krishna Prasad Garaga and Sai Pratheek K are the sixth seeds and will face unseeded Scott Guildea and Paul Reynolds of Ireland in the first round match.
Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde were the only Indian players competing in the mixed doubles. They will face Alexander Dunn and Julie Macpherson in their first round.
