Quoted by ESPN, the last Indian hope successfully passed the second round after beating former world number one, Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota, with a final score of 21-14 and 24-22. Treesa/Gayatri lost a nine-point lead in the second game but managed to hold on to win the match.
These results continue the positive trend of Treesa/Gayatri during the Asian Mixed Team Badminton Championship and the National Championship last February. In the first match, Treesa/Gayatri also created a surprise by eliminating the Thai seventh seed, Jongkolphan Kititharakul/Rawinda Prajongjai.
Then, in the quarter-finals, Friday March 17 in the evening of WIB, Treesa/Gayatri will face the Chinese representatives, Li Wen Mei/Liu Xuan Xuan.
Meanwhile, Indian men's badminton player Lakshya Sen could not stem Anders Antonsen's resistance in the second half as he lost by a score of 13-21 and 15-21 in 52 minutes. This match was Antonsen's revenge event since he was defeated by Lakshya at the All England 2022.
India's defeat in the second round also came from Indian men's doubles Satwik/Chirag who faced Chinese representatives, Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang. This happened even though Satwik/Chirag looked convincing at the start of the match.
On the same day, Indian men's singles HS Prannoy was defeated by Indonesian representative Anthony Sinisuka Ginting with a score of 20-22, 15-21 and 17-21. Former Indian world number one Kidambi Srikanth suffered a similar fate, losing 17-21, 15-21 to Japan's Kodai Naraoka. (Jennifer Carorine Gouw/ESPN)
