The new virus, called “flu” or “tomato fever”, has emerged in India in recent weeks with more than 80 cases recorded in children since May 6.
Like Indian ExpressIndian media have been keeping a close watch on the emergence of a new disease for several weeks, which has similar effects to monkeypox.
According to the first elements compiled by local media, the so-called “fever” or “tomato flu” virus primarily affects children under the age of 5.
It is characterized by the appearance of large rashes all over the body, in the form of round and red blisters, very painful and contagious, like monkeypox.
Many symptoms are observed
Skin rashes are characteristic of the virus. This is where the name “tomato flu” came from, because the pimples found in affected children were as red as the fruit. This disease may also be manifested by fever, nausea, diarrhea, coughing, joint pain or vomiting.
Due to the dehydration caused by this new phenomenon, irritation near the mouth may also appear in infected children.
According to some virologists, “tomato fever” could be a new variant of foot-hand-mouth viral infection, which is very common in young children.
