To commemorate its 34th anniversary, SOina continues to campaign for inclusion

Jakarta: The Special Olympics Indonesia (SOina) 34th Anniversary Celebration will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 with the theme Playing Unified for Inclusion. The choice of this theme aims to encourage the growth of inclusion in Indonesia so that children with special talents or intellectual disabilities can grow up and contribute to the progress of the nation.

A celebration event will be held inviting people who have contributed to the progress of SOina since its inception. “We will invite the children of SOina to show their artistic and sporting abilities,” said Lisa. A. Riyanto, president of the organizing committee, Wednesday (6/9/2023).

Lisa added that the event would be organized in such a way as to create an intimate atmosphere between the talented children and the guests. A number of performances will take place offline, some online.

A number of athletes participating in the Special Olympics World Summer Games (SOWSG) Berlin 2023 will also be in attendance. They will provide testimonials about their experiences meeting and competing with particularly talented athletes from other countries.

As noted, the Bocee match schedule will also be posted. This sport is easy to practice for children with intellectual disabilities, including those in the low ability group. This game, which developed thousands of years ago in Italy, can be used as a single event where a team is made up of athletes with intellectual disabilities and athletes without disabilities.

Pétanque, which is related to bowling, was played in Italy thousands of years ago. Developed in Indonesia in 2010 by an Indian professor in Ragunan, South Jakarta. In 2006, Soina athletes began competing at the Asian level by participating in a championship which took place in Taipei, Taiwan.

For the development of talented children, this particular sport is beneficial since everyone can play it. Unlike other games, pétanque does not require great endurance. All age groups can play for competitive and recreational purposes.
