The Apple Watch is credited with helping 17-year-old Smit Metha in India call for help after falling more than 130 feet. The fall broke both Metha’s ankles, but using the Apple Watch’s cellular connectivity he was able to call friends and family for help, preventing something worse from happening.
Metha was hiking with two friends on a rainy day when he decided to cut himself off from the group for a while. However, due to rainy conditions, he slipped in the rain and fell about 130 feet from the trail into the valley, according to the report. Indian time.
After the fall, Metha realized he didn’t have an iPhone 13 with him, like the one in his friend’s backpack. He quickly realized that his Apple Watch Series 7 had survived the fall and was connected to a cellular network. Using his Apple Watch, Metha was able to make calls to family and friends and emergency services arrived two hours later.
“I was 99kg when I fell and I’m over 6ft tall, so it wasn’t easy at all,” Metha said in an interview with Indian time. According to reports, it was actually the seventh accident on the same road that day due to rainy conditions.
“I had to go through a long rehabilitation period because I couldn’t move the weight on my legs and was in a wheelchair for a while,” said Metha. However, inspired by his experience with the Apple Watch, he decided to contact Apple CEO Tim Cook directly.
He recounted his experience in an email: “My Apple Watch came to my rescue because I could make those important phone calls. Shortly thereafter, Metha got a response from Cook:

Team
