Badminton News: The memory of the defeat against India in the final of the last Thomas Cup championship in 2022 still lingers in the heart of world number 7, Indonesian Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.
Indonesia are the most successful team in the world's most prestigious team championship with 14 titles and are the favorites but were silenced 0-3 by the strong Indian team.
Playing first singles, Anthony Ginting then lost three matches to Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen.
The 27-year-old will now want revenge when his team takes on India on Wednesday in the final Group C qualifier of the 2024 Thomas Cup.
“We know Indonesia has a good record in the Thomas Cup and there is always pressure for us to perform well,” Anthony said.
“Losing to India in the last final was very painful for me and the team,” he said.
“I played my first singles and I failed to score any runs for my team and to be honest, it still hurts. “This time we are in the same group as India and we hope to turn things around,” added Anthony.
Anthony was part of the team that emerged victorious from the 2020 edition in Aarhus, Denmark after an impressive 3-0 win over China.
The world number 7 wants to repeat his success but believes the challenges this time will be difficult.
“It was great to win the title in 2020 and it would be great if we could go all the way again,” Anthony said.
“But there are a lot of strong teams like China, Denmark, Japan, India and others, who want to surprise,” added the All England 2024 finalist.
