F1 News: Former F1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella has surprisingly not named Lewis Hamilton as one of the top three drivers of all time.
Giancarlo Fisichella is known to have had a career in F1 for 14 years. He has been on the same track with the top three talents in the main class, namely Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton.
But when asked who was the best of them all, Fisichella didn’t mention Hamilton by name.
“Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso are above everyone,” he told Corriere.
“Fernando, at almost 42, is living his second youth with Aston Martin. The car is going well, he has put all his mind and will into it,” he explains.
When asked who was better between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, the Italian chose Verstappen.
“Verstappen. It’s the evolution of the species, Max has that extra something and feels like one-handed driving,” he said.
For information, Giancarlo Fisichella was on the grid when Schumacher triumphed at Ferrari. He is paired with Fernano Alonso, where his teammate won the world championship in 2005 and 2006.
Fisichella managed to finish fifth and fourth in the standings in those years. The 50-year-old then endured an embarrassing 2008 season with Force India when Hamilton won his first world title.
During his F1 appearances, Fisichella wore Minardi, Jordan, Benetton, Sauber, Renault, Force India and Ferrari uniforms. So far no one has broken his record as the last Italian driver to win a Grand Prix.
