There are turban-wearing Punjabis, women in fancy Indian attire, and seemingly Caucasian men wearing blue kerchiefs on their heads, in keeping with Sikh customs.

What would you expect from Gurmeet Chadha’s tweets? Complex sales charts of companies, retweeted videos of his appearances on business news channels, and advice on which stocks to invest in. Correct? However, Complete Circle Wealth Solutions’ managing partner and chief information officer (CIO) recently took to Twitter to share a video and what he thought was a humorous comment on it.

The tweet created by Chadha includes a video showing a group of people, most likely part of a wedding procession (baraat). There are turban-wearing Punjabis, women in fancy Indian attire, and seemingly Caucasian men wearing blue kerchiefs on their heads, in keeping with Sikh customs. The music that everyone grooves to is provided by some dhol players and a band playing trombones, trumpets and tubas. Most would see this as a celebratory moment that also serves as a meeting place for two disparate cultures. However, Chadha had a different take on it.

In his tweet on Friday January 20th he wrote: “Angrezon se band and dhol bajwa rahe hain Punjabi. Classic Indian revenge. (on a lighter note, lads).” The first line translates roughly as “Punjabis make the English playband and dhol.” It is likely that when Chadha says ‘revenge’ he is referring to what is meant as retaliation for 200 years of British colonial rule over India.

The tweet went viral with over 1.6 lakh views. So far, there have been mixed reactions to Chadha’s comment and video. One person drew a parallel with McDonald’s serving McAloo Tikki – an adaptation to Indian tastes and culture.

Since Chadha said “lighter grade” in his tweet, one person joked about a “closer grade!”.

Then there’s this tweet from a user who said this is an achievement. (Sarcasm? We’re not sure.)

One user suggested flogging, one of the most inhumane and excessive punishments, as a joke.

Did you find this mix of cultures entertaining on a happy occasion?
