Badminton News: Men’s singles badminton player Ng Tze Yong has a good chance of winning his first World Tour title at the Indonesia Masters from October 18-23 in Malang, East Java.
World No. 39 Ng Tze Yong is the tournament’s top seed and will do his best to win despite his lower-tier status.
The 22-year-old was initially nominated for the Danish Open which was due to take place at the same time but later moved on to the Indonesian Masters after being dropped from the reserve list.
“We transferred Tze Yong to the Indonesian Masters because the chances of a player withdrawing from the Danish Open seem slim,” said singles coaching director Wong Choong Hann.
Tze Yong’s last World Tour event was the Singapore Open in July where he reached the last eight.
Choong Hann chose to take a cautious approach to his chances of winning the title in Indonesia.
“He is still in the learning phase. As long as it continues to develop, we believe it will be on the right track,” Choong Hann said.
Tze Yong’s best result in a World Tour event so far was reaching the semi-finals of the Indian Open in January where he lost to local favorite Lakshya Sen 21-19, 16- 21, 12-21.
At the Indonesia Masters, other Malaysian men’s singles players who will join Tze Yong in the main draw are independent duo Soong Joo Ven and Cheam June Wei and Badminton Association Malaysia (BAM) Leong Jun Hao, Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin, Jacky Kok, Lim Chong King, Lee Shun Yang and Ong Ken Yon.
For now, Johor-born Tze Yong is aiming for his first gold medal at the Malaysian Games (Sukma).
