TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Drone The Hermes 900 HFE manufactured by Elbit System in Israel was ordered by Switzerland for the reconnaissance system. Drone this is the Armaments Dispatch 15 (ADS 15) system. Drones equipped with different sensors can be used day and night, cited by swissinfoo.ch.
This drone registered D-14 has completed flight tests and has been authorized by the Military Aviation Authority (MAA) for its first flight on Wednesday June 15, 2022 in Emmen, Switzerland.
After the flight about 70 minutes UAV ADS 15 it goes back to Emmen. During the flight, the drone reaches a maximum speed of 180 kilometers per hour and a maximum altitude of 2000 meters above the sea.
Switzerland has ordered six Hermes 900 HFE drones. Two drones will be delivered to the Swiss Air Force in the second half of 2022. The remaining four drones will follow by the end of 2023. The acquisition of six drones includes ground components, simulators and logistics.
ADS 15. reconnaissance drone system function
The ADS 15 unmanned and unarmed reconnaissance system replaced the 95 drone system used by the Swiss army until the end of 2019. It is still technology from the 1980s.
Quoting the official website of the Swiss Federal Council, the estimated lifespan of the ADS 15 is around 20 years. Functions for situational and target intelligence, but also includes different sensors if required. For example, radar imagery to produce a picture of the situation on the ground or for electronic reconnaissance. This system can be used day or night.
The ADS 15 drone is useful for wide area surveillance, target search, reconnaissance and tracking. Drones are also used to gain an operational overview and protect infrastructure.
Like the ADS 95 system, the ADS 15 drone is intended for military and civil authorities such as the cantonal general staff, police and emergency services and Swiss border guards. When defending against attacks militaryADS 15 is used to manage and control activities on the ground, in particular for fire support.
Apart from reconnaissance drones, only helicopters are equipped with infrared sensors or forward looking infraredthe FLIR is suitable for today’s aerial reconnaissance.
