The FBI, the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States (US), is evaluating the request ICT Tac dangerous for national security because it becomes a tool of the government China.
This concern was echoed by FBI Director Christopher Wray, who said TikTok can comply with all Chinese government orders. The FBI considers that TikTok can spy on, control and access user software.
“Under Chinese law, all Chinese companies are required to do basically – and I’ll summarize – do whatever the Chinese government wants in terms of sharing information or being a tool of the government,” said Wray. Bloomberg.
“These reasons alone are enough to really worry us,” he added.
The FBI has raised concerns with the US Committee on Foreign Investments. Currently, the committee is reviewing TikTok’s proposed license to operate in the United States.
TikTok themselves incorporate Wray’s concerns into their proposal. However, TikTok spokeswoman Brooke Oberwetter said her party could not release details of the ongoing negotiations.
“As Director Wray noted, the FBI’s contribution is being considered as part of ongoing negotiations with the US government,” Brooke said.
“We cannot comment on confidential discussions. However, we are confident that we are on track to meet US national security criteria,” he added.
Wray’s statement above is consistent with that of Brendan Carr as Commissioner of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC). If this ban is implemented, the United States will become the second country to ban TikTok after India. Previously, India banned TikTok since June 2021 along with 58 other apps from China.
The ban was based on the dispute between India and China on the border of the two countries in the Himalayas. The quarrel between the two left 20 Indian soldiers dead.
