China expressed its hope for a solution to the border conflict with India. It reported “Newsweek“. The reason for this hope appears to be Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent comments emphasizing the need for an urgent resolution of the conflict.

Armament on the border

Military tensions along the disputed, thousands-mile-long border between nuclear powers India and China are particularly high. India recently overtook China as the world’s most populous country. Both countries have been tirelessly building infrastructure and bolstering their troops in the mountainous region where deadly clashes erupted in June 2020.

India has recently become increasingly tied to the United States, which views the country as a counterweight to China.

Prime Minister Modi addressed this conflict directly in an interview with Newsweek. “Relations with China are very important for India. “We need to urgently address the ongoing situation at our borders to forget the lapses in our bilateral relations,” Modi said.

Beijing is full of hope

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning commented at a press conference in Beijing that “China has taken note of Prime Minister Modi's statement.”

According to Mao, relations between India and China were not limited to border conflicts. “China and India maintain close communication through diplomatic and military channels to resolve issues related to the border situation, and positive progress has been achieved,” he said. “We hope that India, together with China, will approach bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, build trust, engage in dialogue and cooperation, and try to appropriately address existing differences to keep relations on a stable path.”
