The Asian Roundnet Federation (ARF) has entrusted the Indonesian Roundnet Sports Association (PORSI) with organizing the competition given the rapid development of the sport in Indonesia. Furthermore, the ARF believes that Indonesia can become a barometer for the development of the Asian network.

Indonesia’s success as hosts cannot be separated from Genta Fajar Heriawan’s role as a pioneer of Indonesian round-net sport, who is also the president of PORSI. According to him, the ARF Cup is also important for the development of a bigger tournament in the country.

“The main objective of this event is that apart from Indonesia making history as the host of the first Roundnet Asian Cup, one of the other important elements is to support socializing and promoting this sport throughout Indonesia,” said Genta, usually referred to as Baron in his official version.

“With the presence of the Indonesian national Roundnet team as well as national teams from other countries, it is believed that it can make the Roundnet more popular so that it can help the hard work of PORSI in training provincial administrators, so as to to fulfill the administrative requirements of KONI to become official members so that the Roundnet can soon become the next branch of high performance sport,” he added.

PORSI Secretary General Parto Bangun further explained that the countries that have confirmed their participation, besides Indonesia, are Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Japan and Australia. Meanwhile, other countries like India, Jordan, Korea, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are still awaiting confirmation.

The classes participating in the ARF Cup include the men’s team, the women’s team and the mixed team. Then, to add to the excitement of the competition, an Open Tournament will be held on September 23 to meet the interest of round-robin players from non-national teams around the world who wish to participate.

Roundnet is a sports game that combines elements of volleyball, badminton and table tennis. The way to play is by kicking the ball into the net like a trampoline and then bouncing in a direction that makes it difficult for the opponent.

A roundnet team is made up of two players. Later, they will compete to collect 21 points in each round consisting of three sets (including rubber games if necessary).
