“Unfortunately, the very high Tesla commitments require a postponement of the visit to India, but I very much look forward to a visit later this year,” he wrote on X.
Musk was expected to announce his ambitious project, which has been in the works for years. The project is expected to see Tesla invest at least $2-3 billion to set up a factory to produce entry-level electric cars (speculated to be Model 2, despite recent question marks over the product's development) priced at around Rs 25 lakh .
He was also expected to meet executives of several space startups in New Delhi. Musk is awaiting regulatory approval from the government to begin offering its Starlink satellite broadband services in India.
Earlier, Musk, who also owns X (formerly Twitter), confirmed his trip and meeting with Prime Minister Modi.
