The President of the Republic speaks by telephone with the Prime Minister of India, Mr Narendra MODI, this Tuesday, 16 August 2022.
India’s Head of State and Prime Minister discussed the war waged by Russia in Ukraine and its destabilizing consequences for the rest of the world. The Republican president underlined France’s determination to continue its support for Ukraine, and the two leaders agreed to work together to end the conflict.
Facing the food crisis, the President of the Republic reaffirmed the importance of the international community to act in a coordinated manner. In this regard, the two leaders underlined the relevance of the framework offered by the FARM initiative, to ensure transparency in agricultural markets and prevent speculative behavior, to assist populations most at risk of food insecurity, and to strengthen agriculture. state sovereignty by further developing their local production.
The President of the Republic and the Prime Minister of MODI also discussed the bilateral relationship between the two countries, the positive dynamics of which continues. The Head of State welcomed India’s announcement regarding the new determined national contribution, and urged France’s full support to boost India’s climate ambitions.
They also discussed challenges in the Indo-Pacific region as well as the situation in Sri Lanka.
