Badminton News: Indonesian badminton legend Taufik Hidayat will be the guest of honor at the inauguration of the Indian National Badminton Academy in Guwahati Assam on Friday evening (11/8).

Thus, it is certain that Taufik Hidayat will find the former coach who won him a gold medal at the Athens Olympics in 2004, Mulyo Handoyo, who has just been appointed sole head coach of the Indian national team. .

It was earlier reported that Indonesian coach Mulyo Handoyo has been appointed as the sole head coach of the National Center of Excellence in Guwahati, with the Badminton Federation of India (BAI) also recruiting two other foreign coaches for the newly constructed facilities.

Former Russian All-England champion Ivan Sozonov will coach the doubles, while Korea’s Park Tae-sang, who led PV Sindhu to a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, will serve as the third foreign coach.

Apart from this, there will also be a large number of Indian trainers who will work closely with foreign trainers.

NCoE, a joint venture between the Government of Assam and the BAI, will be inaugurated in Guwahati on Friday. This state-of-the-art facility has 24 badminton courts with boarding facilities, a seating capacity of approximately 3,000 spectators, a gym and a yoga center.

“BAI has big plans and this center of excellence and the appointment of three coaches in Mulyo, Sozonov and Park is the first step,” BAI General Secretary Sanjay Mishra told PTI.

Legendary Mulyo Handoyo, who coached Athens 2004 Olympic gold medalist Taufik Hidayat, made a huge impact during his one-year stint with the Indian national team.

During his tenure in 2017, Kidambi Srikanth emerged victorious from four Super Series tournaments, while B Sai Praneeth won one title. He joined the Singapore team after leaving his post in early 2018.
