Badminton News: Indian women’s doubles pair of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa won their second World Tour Super 100 title at the Guwahati Masters Super 100 tournament on Sunday.
They beat Taiwanese duo Sung Shuo Yun and Yu Chien Hui in straight matches, with scores of 21-13, 21-19, in a 40-minute final in Guwahati.
The second-seeded Indian combination finished runners-up in the Syed Modi Super 300 International tournament last week in Lucknow.
This is the third title for the Indian pair this year, following their victories at the Abu Dhabi Masters Super 100 and the 2023 Nantes International Challenge.
Both men showed dominance in the opening match, securing an 11-7 lead at the break and remaining in control throughout the match.
Despite a short resistance from their opponents in the second game, Ashwini and Tanisha eventually secured victory with the required two points.
Ashwini Ponnappa, 34, and Tanisha Crasto, 20, started their partnership in January this year and quickly found success.
Notably, they were part of the Indian team for the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Ashwini, an experienced doubles player, has already enjoyed success with Jwala Gutta, winning medals at the World Championships and Commonwealth Games.
After parting ways with Sikki Reddy in 2022, Ashwini entered into a successful partnership with Tanisha. Tanisha, who initially excelled in mixed doubles, later focused on women’s doubles and joined Ashwini after struggling to find a consistent partner.
The duo’s collaboration proved fruitful, resulting in historic victories and adding a dynamic dimension to India’s representation in women’s doubles badminton.
