Sunil Gavaskar reveals ’emotional moment’ as MS Dhoni signs his shirt

Former India fly-half Sunil Gavaskar has revealed it was a very emotional moment for him when he took captain MS Dhoni’s autographs on his shirt during Chennai Super Kings (CSK) final IPL 2023 Championship game at Chepauk on Sunday . Apart from their six-wicket loss to Kolkata Knight Riders in their final home clash of IPL 2023, Sunday was a special occasion for the Chennai Super Kings and their fans at MA Chidambaram Stadium.

As it was CSK’s last home of the season, Dhoni decided to take a victory lap at Chepauk with his teammates. As CSK players strolled through their stadium, Indian cricket legend Gavaskar chased after a group of players and asked CSK captain Dhoni for his autograph. Indeed, the former India captain asked Dhoni to autograph his shirt, a moving tribute from one footballing legend to another.

Gavaskar took CSK captain MS Dhoni’s autograph on his jersey during CSK’s lap of honor in Chepauk. The legendary Indian cricketer has revealed the real reason behind his impulsive act and why he got emotional when Dhoni signed him.

“When I found out that Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni were going to do the lap of honor in Chepauk, I decided to create some special memories. That’s why I ran to MSD to get his autograph. was his last home game at Chepauk,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.

“Of course he will have the chance to play here if CSK makes the playoffs. But I decided to make this moment special. I was lucky someone on the camera had markers. So, I thank that person as well,” he added.

Gavaskar, 73, also appreciated Dhoni’s gesture and also praised the CSK captain for his legacy in Indian cricket. “So I went to Mahi and asked him to put his signature on the shirt I was wearing. It was too good for him to admit. It was a very emotional moment for me because that person brought a huge contribution to Indian cricket,” he said.

An emotional Gavaskar also revealed the two most special cricket moments he will treasure for the rest of his life. “Kapil Dev lifts the WC 1983 trophy and MS Dhoni’s six wins in the WC 2011 final are two cricketing moments I want to see before I die,” said the former India captain.
