Badminton News: The strong Indian team, after being eliminated from the Sudirman Cup 2023 after an unimpressive campaign, following defeats against China Taipei and Malaysia, beat the Australian team with a final score of 4-1 in of its last group game on Wednesday (17/5).
The first match of the day started with his mixed doubles partner Sai Pratheek. K and Tanisha Crasto, who lost to Kenneth Zhe Hooi Choo and Gronya Somerville in three close matches with scores of 21-17, 14-21, 18-21.
World number 7 men’s singles HS Prannoy dominated the match against Jack Yu 21-8, 21-8 and tied the score at 1-1.
In the women’s singles match, India’s Anupama Upadhyaya defeated Tiffany Ho in consecutive matches 21-16, 21-18.
Men’s doubles duo Arjun MR / Dhruv Kapila also followed by defeating Australian representatives Ricky Tang / Rayne Wang in two easy matches 21-11 and 21-12.
The women’s doubles performance added to the brilliance of the Indian team in their final group stage match. Crasto and Ashwini Ponappa defeated Kaitlyn Ea and Angela Yu in back-to-back matches 21-19, 21-13.
India ended the 2023 Sudirman Cup competition by finishing third in Group C after losing to China Taipei and also Malaysia. Australia finished bottom of the group after losing all three matches.
Malaysia and Chinese Taipei occupy the 1st and 2nd positions respectively and are entitled to a ticket for the quarter-finals of the Sudirman Cup 2023.
